Festivals

In the region of Pelion, there is no lack of festivals. Throughout the year there are various happenings in the villages. Visitors are welcome to take part in these festivals, where food and wine is offered to everyone. These cultural events showcase the Greek beliefs, traditions and cultures that have passed down generations.

If you are not so sure which festival is occurring at which village, then you can ask your Pelion hotel to provide you with the necessary information. The festival season usually lasts from March to September.

Tsipouro Festival is held on 1st June in Katohori. This Greek alcohol beverage is produced in spring and particularly popular in mountainous regions. There is a huge party to celebrate the production of tsipouro in Katohori, with dancing and traditional music to enchant the atmosphere. During this festival, tsipouro is consumed in abundance by the attendants.

The month of July sees a series of festivals in different villages. For example, on 1st July, the Name Day of Saint Anargiri is celebrated in Vizitsa. On 17th July, the Festival of Agia Marina is hosted at Kissos. The religious feast of Agios Vlasios takes place at the village square in Agios Vlasios on 24th July. All these festivals are marked by holy litanies, traditional dancing and music.

Towards the end of July, two important festivals occur at two different villages. One is the “Sausage Festival” at Stagiates and the other is the “Psaradiki Night” at Agria. The later is the festival of various fishing traditions and customs, while the famous fish soup “Kakavia” is offered. Moreover, in September, an Apple Festival is celebrated in Zagora village.
