The villages of Pelion are not directly connected to Athens but through Volos, the nearest town to Pelion. Volos is directly connected to Athens by bus and by train. Buses leave from Liosion Station, Athens, and arrive in Volos in about 5 hours. Itineraries are frequent and daily. From Volos, you take another bus to various villages of Pelion. A train also leaves from Athens to Volos once a day and the trip takes about 5 hours, too.
Volos is also connected by ferry to Sporades islands, in particular Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos. From these islands, there are regular ferries and hydrofoils to the port of Volos. From there, you can catch the green bus to villages of Pelion.
If you want to drive to Pelion from Athens, you can follow the National Highway from Athens to Lamia and then take the road to Larissa. After about an hour from Lamia, you turn following the signs to Volos. From Volos, you follow the signs to various villages of Pelion. The distance from Athens to Volos is about 320 km. The road is good till Volos but then it gets windy and narrow.
