Pelion has an abundance of local produce of fresh fruits and vegetables. This is due to the temperate climate of the region and the moderate amount of rainfall, which the region receives in autumn and winter. In fact, Pelion is one of the greenest areas in Greece. Rainfalls enable the crops to grow and retain the verdant vegetation on the mountain slopes and valleys.
Some of the local products include natural herbs and teas, honey, olives and olive oil, herbal vinegar, fruity liquors, walnuts, chestnuts and homemade pasta. Zagora village is renowned among the Greek islands for its tasty apples. These apples are distributed are smaller than the normal apples. They are distributed around Greece and exported to other countries.
Pelion is also famous for its spoon sweets, mostly made out of small apples and other fruits. Such sweets and jams are homemade and can be found in all stores of the area or sold in open street markets. Before you buy, you can ask at the cafeteria of your Pelion hotel to taste such a spoon sweet.
