The long history of Pelion is pictured in the beautiful museums of the area. These museums are scattered in the villages and may be far one from the other. It is advised that you seek the help of a tourist guide or ask for tourist brochures from your Pelion hotel so that you can get a clear idea about the places that you want to visit.
The magnificent Topali Mansion houses the Museum of Folklore Art. This mansion is located in Makrinitsa, one of the most picturesque villages of Pelion. The mansion was constructed in 1844 and it depicts the traditional architectural style of the area. It has been renovated and now hosts traditional furniture, clothing, tools, guns and agricultural machines.
In the village of Zagora, you will find the Greek Museum-School of Rigas Ferreos. This building was constructed in early 18th century and used to be a famous school. Important Greek historical figures studied there, such as Rigas Ferreos and Anthimos Gazis. Now it has turned into a museum to host rare books, maps of the 16th century, manuscripts of Rigas Ferreos and other items.
The Angelinis Museum is located in the small village of Horto. The museum has an exquisite collection of historical objects including tools, rare books and traditional costumes of Pelion and Northern Greece. It is housed in an old, stone storehouse properly designed to host international meetings.
In Portaria village, you will find the Chaplet Museum housed in an old, traditional building. It includes many chaplets made of different stones and colours. Some of them date from the 18th century. Chaplets had always been a favorite pastime of the Greeks and this museum is dedicated to them.
