Pelion is a mountainous area that is quite difficult to move around if you don't have a car. The biggest villages of Pelion are connected by bus to Volos, one of the largest towns and ports of Greece. There are also some bus itineraries between some villages of the area, but it is hard to reach some small villages as public transportation is not sufficient.
If you want to drive around Pelion, pay attention because the road is windy and can get track sometimes. Always have a map with you in case sings are not sufficient. Most car rental agencies are found in Volos, while there are also a few in the eastern coastal side of Pelion. If you want to rent a car, you can ask at your Pelion hotel which is the nearest rental agency.
Moreover, a few years ago, a steam train started to work again in Pelion. It mostly works from tourism reasons and not as an actual transportation means. It was originally constructed in the end of the 19th century by Italian engineer Evaristo de Kiriko and stopped working in the mid 20th century due to technological advances. Now it has been renovated and connects Ano Lehonia village to Milies through a beautiful route.
