Weather

Pelion has a moderate climate and usually does not come across extreme climatic conditions. Being a peninsular region, it is located between the Pagasetic Gulf and the Aegean Sea. Its proximity to the sea enables it to enjoy temperate climate. Its mountainous region is also an important factor that influences the climate of this place. Cool winds tend to blow from the mountains to the valleys below keeping temperature at a comfortable level.

During the summer season, temperatures are around 26 degrees in the mountains and 35 degrees along the coasts. The cool weather in the beaches make people stay in the Pelion apartments there and explore the rest of the area by car.

During spring and autumn, temperatures vary between 25 and 10 degrees. Daylight lasts upto 10 hours daily. Thus it enables te tourists to go on long walks or hiking in the mountains. The region experiences moderate rainfall between November and February. This rainfall is extremely essential as it makes the soil fertile and the mountain slopes get carpeted with beautiful lush green vegetation.

But in winter season, temperatures considerably fall to almost 0 degrees and in some villages under 0. This is due to the height of Mt. Pelion, which is 1550 metres above sea level. The mountain slopes are covered with snow and cold winds blow. This time of the year, the Ski Centre in Agriolefkes opens and attracts winter tourists.
